The match makes a graceful arc to the floor - This weekend was pretty nice even though Saturday started off as a real pain in the ass. Usually, my alarm goes off at 445am for work. I get up at 5am and am out the door by 6am to be at work by 730. I leave my alarm on during the weekends merely for the sick pleasure of waking up, laughing, turning it off and going back to sleep. Sleeping until 9am is a true joy these days. It feels like I'm committing some sort of misdemeanor, stealing the morning hours back for myself. SatanMom, however, decided to wake my ass up at 830. After a heated exchange, she asked me to breakfast. Stupidly, I agreed. It takes me an hour or so to actually "wake up" and become coherent in the morning. You could ask me to jump in a volcano and I'd probably agree first thing in the morning. Anyway, she dragged me to fucking IHOP AGAIN. I'm officially loathe going there now. The staff are mindless and the patrons just make me pissed off. Food isn't great and the coffee's just fucking insulting. If you're too fat to fit in a booth at IHOP, it's probably a sign you don't need to eat there. Needless to say, breakfast sucked and, to put a cherry on top, SatanMom "forgot" to bring some money so guess who wound up picking up the tab? Yeah, real fucking nice. This was the last time I fall for this crap. Back to the house, grabbed my wallet, received last rites and headed to The Belly of The Beast ( Target) for Xmas shopping. I really only had ONE person to buy for this year. Target wasn't too bad. Xmas shopping tends to make me stabby but crowds were not that bad at all. Combat Shopped (got in, achieved the objected and left) and headed back home. Did an awful job of present wrapping, some laundry and read some more. Changed for the party at poisongirl's place. Headed over to Kroger to pick up a cheese tray for the gig. Got to the party and had a pretty good time. Ran into quite a few people I knew: nicker, aquaknot, kinderkaos, vlad_the_rus, eeyore_sings and a few other LJ-less people. Had a tiny amount of Scotch and kept myself to drinking Pepsi. Apparently, some of the ladies thought I looked pretty sharp in my Black Jacket, Collared Shirt & Jeans outfit. Pretty cool to have women compliment how I look. :) Was very nice to catch up with people; cool to talk to people as always. Stole some food for the poor, homeless kitty outside their apartment, pet on the little guy out in the cold for about ten minutes then headed over to Ritual. Ran into more people I knew at the club: sabrina_pandora brought me one of her t-shirts, wendiegoers, animeoni all dressed in WHITE, gehen_kaizen whose boobs I smushed, hugging her so tightly (sorry, babe), creepigurl, the new outfit'd nicker and sekhmet22. Hung out with the ladies and kept myself to drinking soda the entire night. In the 5+ years I've known creepigurl, this was probably the longest I've ever talked to her. Weird that we've known each other for so long but never really spoke. nicker and sekhmet22 clued me in on how other people were dancing and how I need to make an effort to match my shoes with my belt (yeah, I know...). I joked during the night that I felt like Atlanta's Repository of Secrets. I guess it makes me feel pretty proud that so many people TRUST ME with such private thoughts and feelings. I know, External Validation is a Dumb Thing, but it just makes me feel kind of ... proud that people trust me so much. I'm very guilty of taking friendship pretty seriously since I have no real family of my own. Feeling that way Saturday night definitely put a smile on my face. It was pretty special to me. Stayed at the club later that I had planned. The music just wasn't that great that night (maybe because I prefer a "harder" brand of industrial dance music - I dunno). Left around 245am. Headed back up to Kennesaw and then realized I hadn't eaten since breakfast! Had a few small noshes at poisongirl's party but Man cannot live on carrot sticks alone. So, I stopped by Waffen Haus Waffle House for some toast n' eggs. Some strange people at Waffle House at 330 in the morning. People watched, mulled over how I felt that night and finished my meal. Back to the house, passed out around 420am. Sunday wasn't much, as usual. More laundry, reading. Tried some more geocaching for a few hours (still no luck with my not-so-sensitive GPS) and gave up again. Just need a different unit. Had some soup, oatmeal bath and tanked out early. Saturday was pretty damn cool. I'm glad I got out and spent time with so many people. Yeah, man. - Christmas is just around the corner. I picked up a little black bag that says COAL on it to hold my few small presents I got myself: some yuzu shower gel (now I smell like a Japanese fruit - wait, that doesn't sound right...), some drawing pencils and a bottle of beer. At least that's SOMETHING for me to open Xmas day. I gave some good stuff to charity this year; just makes me realize how much I like getting gifts for other people this time of year. Pretty tough not to have a Significant Other to get presents for. Maybe next year will be better? My Xmas Song Playlist:Christmas Time for My Penis by The Vandals Fuck Christmas by Fear Welcome Christmas (The Whoville Xmas Song) by Love Spirals Downward Back Door Santa by Clarence Carter Cold by Lycia Feliz Navidad by Los Straitjackets Skating by Vince Guaraldi I sincerely hope you and yours have an excellent Xmas this year. Christmas is a tough time of the year for me (see my previous entry) but I try to make the best of it. May you have a warm safe wonderful time with your family and friends. Writer's Block: Holiday cheer-less
 - I tend to get somewhat depressed over the Holidays. My grandfather passed away Xmas Day morning when I was 8. One of those, "Why won't grandpa wake up?" type deals. I guess not having a real family either makes the Holidays pretty tough one me, too. I usually hole up and just hope to get thru the days. Sorry, I know this is a sucky answer. :( |

Good Weekend UpDate later but, for now, here's some chili... White Chicken Chili
Ingredients:1 medium onion, chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped 1 tbsp butter or margarine 1 tsp ground cumin 2 (15.5-ounce) cans Goya small white beans or cannellini beans 2 (4.5-ounce) cans chopped green chiles (use Hatch chiles if you can find them) 1 1/2 cups pre-cooked rotisserie chicken, chopped 3 cups chicken broth 1/2 cup milk 2 tbsp cornstarch Directions:Combine onion, garlic, jalapeno, and butter in a large pot. Saute for several minutes until the onion starts to soften. Sprinkle cumin on top to release the flavor. Add beans, green chiles, chopped chicken, and chicken broth. Bring to a boil. Once chili is heated through, add milk and stir in. Put cornstarch into a small bowl. Carefully ladle some liquid from the chili onto the cornstarch, and mix to form a thin paste. Pour the paste into the chili and allow several minutes to thicken slightly. Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: Godflesh - Amoral |

Poll & Friday Wrap Up Poll #1500651 Checking to see why YOU'RE here

 - A few things going on this weekend. Definitely hitting the American BodyWorks close to The Room. Gonna get the grand tour on Saturday and get a trial membership. Very tired of being an achey suet pile. Hitting poisongirl's get together for a bit, then put in a cameo appearance at Ritual. I can still use some serious Holiday cheer and if it takes a Vampire Santa, so be it. Hopefully, I will run into a few people I know a both events (pretty darn sure of it). Gimme a text or call if you want some company. - Yes, I DO have an Amazon.com Wish List. No, you don't have to get me anything. Thanks for asking. I appreciate the thought. - Yes, I am one of the few humans on the planet that does not have any real desire to see the new movie, Avatar. I'm just NOT a Science Fiction fan anymore. I admit I WAS back in my teens but I got pretty damn tired of the genre. I WOULD check out the film just to experience the new 3D technology in the film. I guess I will need to see the film in theaters for this effect. Last time I mentioned I wasn't a Sci-Fi fan, some obnoxious woman at DragonCon decided to lash into me for not reading the Harry Potter series of books. Rabid "You Suck Because You're NOT Into This" Sci-Fi fans don't help their case by calling me a "fucking idiot" because I don't like the same stuff as they do. Feel more than free to recommend some Sci-Fi stuff I might like. I am always up for some new reading material or movies. I'm just beyond sick of anything close to Lauren K. Hamilton or Anne McCafferey's "stuff". - UnIntentional Two-Fer on my latest MP3 CD:Everyone I Love is Dead by Type O NegativeAll My Friends Are Dead by Turbonegro- Hilarious Craigslist Ad:http://yepyep.gibbs12.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/free_lcd_tv_craigslist.jpg"So...If you dont mind a sillouette of a skinny white guy taking a load in the face from the biggest black penis in recorded history forever adorning your new TV, its yours."- I'm wearing a Slayer concert shirt with a Rolex today. I just gotta be me. Have a stellar weekend, people. After the holidays, I will try to put together an Atlanta Posse Get Together at Café Intermezzo. Let me know if you'd be interested. Would be good to have a scheduled meet-up with people at a nice, relaxed place where we can actually TALK to one another. Take care, stay warm and relax a bit, - UnR

Avatar review Avatar was absolutely amazing. You have never seen anything like this before... seriously. The jungle setting Cameron has created is achingly beautiful... one moment you want to reach out and touch the softly luminescent seedpods that (thanks to the revolutionary 3D) seem to float around you, and the next you are recoiling from from a six legged beastie trying to gnaw your face off. The motion capture animation is flawless. Other than being 9 feet tall and blue, there is nothing to stop you from believing the Na'vi are as real as the live action actors they seamlessly share the screen with. The story is familiar, sort of "Dances With Wolves" with dashes of "Braveheart" and "Aliens". These are wide open archetypes though, and the stunning visuals allow us to experience them with a new sense of wonder. The battle scenes that dominate the third act alternately drop your jaw and tear at your heart. I'll be seeing "Avatar" again on Monday, this time on IMAX, and I can't remember a time I have been so excited to re-watch a movie.

"Martinique Milk Punch" sounds like something we tried to get a hooker to do on my bachelor party... Choose Your Drinks Today: Tom and Jerry Ingredients: 2 eggs, separated 1⁄8 tsp. cream of tartar 1 1⁄2 cups plus 2 tsp. dark rum 2⁄3 cup superfine sugar 1⁄4 tsp. ground cinnamon 1⁄8 tsp. ground allspice 1⁄8 tsp. ground cloves 4 1⁄2 cups milk 1 1⁄2 cups cognac, preferably VSOP Freshly grated nutmeg 1. In a large bowl, whisk egg whites and cream of tartar to stiff peaks.
2. In another bowl, whisk yolks, 2 tsp. rum, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves until thick. Working in 2 batches, fold egg whites into yolk mixture. Cover bowl with plastic wrap; chill batter.
3. To serve, heat milk in a 2-qt. saucepan over medium-low heat; keep warm. Put 1 heaping tbsp. batter into a mug; stir in 1–2 tbsp. each of cognac and rum. Fill mug with 6 tbsp. milk; stir until frothy and garnish with nutmeg. Repeat.
SERVES 12 Martinique Milk Punch
Ingredients:3 egg yolks 1 quart milk 1⁄4 cup sugar 1⁄4 tsp. ground cinnamon 1⁄4 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg 1⁄4 tsp. vanilla extract Strips of zest from 1 lemon 3⁄4 cup aged rum (rhum vieux)</b> 1. Put egg yolks into a large bowl and set aside. Pour milk into a small pot and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Add the milk to the yolks in a slow, steady stream while whisking constantly. Add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Stir well to combine. 2. Add rum, stir well, and strain. Pour the punch into cups and serve while still hot. SERVES 4 Milk punch, introduced to the British Isles by merchants from the East India Company, was fashionable in England in the early 18th century. This recipe is an adaptation of one that appears in Esquire's Handbook for Hosts (Grosset & Dunlap, 1949). (Which is why after reading about the East India Company, I got the I've Got a Jar of Dirt!! song stuck in my head.) Current Mood: thirstyCurrent Music: Pup's Remission EP |

Note to Self dept.: - PusciferMar 2nd & 3rd Atlanta, GA Center Stage
- Yes, had a good weekend. Dinner with sehkmet22 & nicker was very fun (even if the food wasn't as great as we'd hoped). Made a quick appearance at Phobia then disappeared for some stupid drinking. Drinking while you're angry at YOURSELF is not a good idea. My Stomach Thing cropped up Saturday so that was a write off day. Sunday was nothing much: matzoh ball soup, toast, laundry, reading. - Martin Atkins' book, Tour Smart, is pretty damn great. Some killer stories and advice in here. Check it out if you have anything to do with the music biz or just want some great road tales. Back to work. Checking out the gym this weekend & will try to practice some pencil drawing as well. Maybe get back to where I'd be comfortable going to one of those Dr. Sketchy things. My very best to you, - UnR

Page turner. Just jumping back to read the last few birthday entries I made. Honestly, not a lot has changed over the years. Certainly the lack of drugs and the diminished alcohol consumption have turned a few pages for me but I'm still more or less in the same book and even on the same chapter as 2002. Maybe it's just a longer read than I expected or maybe I am just that example of doing the same thing over and over with the expectation of a new result? Whatever the case, I'm alive and I'm doing what I can with what I have just the same as the next person. I believe that we are all at any given time doing what we honestly believe to be our best but I want to think there will be more than just that sense of plodding along this coming year. Better start figuring it out soon though cause I think this book is over due back at the library regardless. Cheers. |

Neil Gaiman at Agnes Scott College Had an amazing time last night at the Neil Gaiman reading/book signing at Agnes Scott thanks to the great people at The Little Shop of Stories. Neil read to the crowd of over 1000 from "Odd & The Frost Giants" and "The Graveyard Book", answered questions, and then settled in for 7 hours of signing books and taking pictures with fans. The simple fact that while that many people waited up to seven hours to meet him there was no pushing, shoving, or rudeness, speaks volumes about Neil and the type of people who are drawn to his work. The crowd sat quietly, chatted, read books, and watched each others belongings as people took bathroom and snack breaks. I really have to hand it to the Agnes Scott staff and the staff of The Little Shop of Stories for working their asses off to make sure everyone had a great time. And of course, thank you to Neil Gaiman for treating your fans with such respect. Neil reading to the fans from "Odd & The Frost Giants". I want Neil to read all my stories to me now... :-) Neil autographing my copies of "Neverwhere" & "Sandman: The Doll's House Current Mood: cheerful |
